Re: [RC] Horses!!! stop with the height - Bette Lamore

Hey Heidi
This one made it through my filter-- don't know why--- and don't know why you are writing me--- I haven't posted to you and won't in the future except to clarify something. I never named you as the DWR but now that you are "bringing in the troops" be aware that I have NO ONE else in your special position. You have sent mean email-- both private and public to me and a lot of other folks, some of whom have emailed me about it. I know of no one else on ridecamp who consistently does this--- not Maria, not Joe, not Lynn so stop trying to put words in my mouth. All of the others can disagree without venom and I am not talking only about this one recent subject. Your history goes back a long ways and it looks like Linda already addressed that issue with you. I had nothing to do with Linda's note to you so why the email to me? I have never harpooned you and if people knew who I had on the DWR ("delete without reading" list) then it is because they have read your mean email to me in the past on ridecamp--- it didn't come from me.
If you can find even one email from me where I have slammed your breeding program, the height of your horses... ANYTHING.. then I guess I will owe you an apology. When I encouraged Erin and told her not to get too upset about a few people who write mean things, I never pointed to you until you just pointed to yourself. I have never sent you an email that has been the least bit hurtful.
There--- you've let the cat out of the bag that you indeed were the one I was referring to as mean-- you and you alone. It is just my experience with you and does not reflect on anyone else--- perhaps you are kinder to others. If so, I'm happy. I can live without further interaction with you (and yes, my email from ridecamp are also considerably less time consuming).
So even if another one of your posts get through my filter, this is the last response you will get from me. I shovel enough sh..t out in pasture; I don't need to bring it into my computer!
Bette

PS: Sorry, can't help it if it is construed as "mean" to share facts,
figures, and observances. I know Bette's post is meant as a personal
harpoon toward me and perhaps toward Maria (who is the only other CMK
breeder who has responded to this thread)--but I consider us to be in good
company among Joe Long, Lynne Glazer, and the several other regular
contributors (who also happen to RIDE!) who have likewise stated their
observations about balanced, middle-of-the-road horses. It is sad indeed
when frankness and openness about a subject are attacked as "meanness" by
a few who can't come up with anything better than personal slams.

Heidi,
I think I first starting reading this list in 97. I got interested in endurance and wanted to learn all I could. I have learned much more than I have been able to apply. A divorce in 99-2000 - a move in 2000 - purchasing property and developing it beginning in 01 - and for the last two years, being sole caregiver for my elderly Mother who has AZ, has put a huge crimp in my endurance plans.
However, I have been a regular reader here, mostly lurking. I first met Bette Lamore in 98. I went to see her stallion and we became friends. I ended up breeding two mares to him. Back then, I don't think she even had a computer, although I believe Mark used one in his work. I told her about ridecamp and encouraged her to get her butt online and join in. I also encouraged her to get a website done for her horses. Before long, the rascal was not only online, but she taught herself how to do web design. She did her website and has done some for others as well. Anyway, she started reading ridecamp and probably started posting here in 99. Bette doesn't have a lot of personal endurance experience, but she has spent a lifetime with horses, mostly Arabians. When anyone on ridecamp would ask a question about something, she would always try to help if she could.
I remember back then, you began responding to her posts, although not much. At that time you were involved in the wars with TI. Those battles lasted seemingly forever, until he left or got booted off.......I dunno.......all of a sudden he was gone.
Sometime after that you started poking little subtle digs at things Bette would write. I think I picked up on it before she did. However, before too much more time, she noticed it as well, and then she started getting private email from other people about your jabs at her.
I will have to give you credit for subtlety. You write very well and are able to pick your words very cleverly so they won't sound like an obvious dig........instead a very quiet, very sly one. Anytime something would come up on the list about bloodlines, origins, stallions, conformation, size, breeding, etc., no matter what Bette would write, you would always counter it or discount it in some manner....or spin it so your responses appear right and hers not quite right..........always so subtly. Bette has horses that are mostly Russian or Polish or a combination of bloodlines. You have CMK. However, to hear you tell it, your breeding program and your horses are the best horses out there and CMK horses are the only ones fit to ride. I am not arguing any of this. I feel there are good individuals to be found in many bloodlines. I'm not debating what is the best. I am only pointing out the tone of your posts in the past toward Bette, her horses and things she has posted.
For a long time, Bette ignored your little pokes at whatever she said. It has only been this last year or so that she has started defending herself and has, at times, gotten irritated. Frankly, she was gracious far longer than many would have been. I will be the first to say that I have learned a lot from many of your posts and I agree with a lot of what you say.....not that it matters what I think. However, you do have a little streak in you that insists on being right and insists on having the last word. Perhaps that's why the Heidi/TI wars lasted so long. Both you and he are people who need to be right and need to have the last word.
Bette has never put you down and or put down your horses. She has great appreciation for the foundation lines. Until lately, she has been friendly, light, and gracious. Your constant jabs and digs about pretty much anything she wrote in her posts finally took it's toll and she started addressing them. Then you act all surprised - like you don't know what you've been doing. There are a good many people that have written her in private, that have noticed it too. They, for whatever reason, didn't want bring it up here.........even though this list is where they read the jabs. Perhaps they don't want to be flamed by your friends....like I will be.
I don't care about flames. You started this thing with Bette a long time ago. You could have been nicer about some of the things you wrote and you could have been as gracious as she was toward you, for a very long time. Somewhere along the line, I guess Bette became your new target. It's a shame. She is really a very nice person. I know for a fact, she will go to the ends of the world to help someone. You know, we all have our faults. I'll bet you even have one or two. You started this little nastiness a long time ago. It has festered a long time and now has turned into a big, ugly boil. It's not always about being right - or having the last word - or being "righter" than everyone else - or having the only Arabs in the world worth riding - or putting down other people's horses - or other people's tastes because they happen to like Arabs over 15 hands. It's a great big world full of variety........and at least ten "right" ways to do most anything.
Linda Hedgpeth
PS: My hat is off to you in the area of time management. Not only do you manage a ranch, run a horse breeding operation, have a veterinary practice, vet endurance rides, train to/and compete in endurance races, you also have the time every day to write quite a number of very lengthy posts to ridecamp. Your typing wpm must be around 200.....or the days where you live have more than 24 hours.
