Re: [RC] Life span usefulness. - Dot WigginsThere are QHs and QHs. I've had several that were healthy, happy, and useful well into 20s. And know of many others. And most did lots of hard work, including endurance rides for some. QHs have suffered the same as Arabs from poor selections of breeding stock. I've heard that many of the Doc Bars (and there are a lot) have a shorter than average life span. I hate to see a whole breed trashed because of the "show ring" representatives and types. The Arab folks are just as guilty of promoting poor quality as some QH breeders. There are fine, useful, tough, healthy horses in all the light horse breeds, if you get out of the show circles. It's not very practical to put the time, training and money into a horse that isn't going to be there a long time. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara McCrary" <bigcreekranch@xxxxxxxxxx> To: "RIDECAMP" <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "Dot Wiggins" <dotwgns@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, July 23, 2004 10:11 PM Subject: Re: high-dollar sales (was Re: [RC] [RC] buying, selling, breeding, producing) But I think QHs do not live as long as Arabs and Morgans, if I recall correctly. It's the years of experience and the skill, not the age that counts. That horse will teach somebody how it's supposed to be done. Worth his weight ingold. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara McCrary" <bigcreekranch@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <walkergirl@xxxxxxxxxx>; <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, July 22, 2004 10:10 AM Subject: Re: high-dollar sales (was Re: [RC] [RC] buying, selling, breeding, producing)I have been very interested in the asking prices for working QHs lately. Ads in our local livestock auction yard flyer show (example) a 15-17yearold QH, expert team penning, roping, etc. for something like $10,000.Lotsof money for an older horse!
