Gotta tell you, the spot Nas got stuck on on the WS 50 trail was that 
section that parallels Hwy 49, with a steep grade uphill, and the bottom of 
the steep downhill ending on the pavement at the bottom.  It was bizarre 
trying to deal with a possible horse wreck with cars driving by what seemed 
like 100 ft straight down.  No way would I voluntarily have gotten my horse 
to get off the trail uphill except that there was no way for any of the 
following horses to pass me otherwise.  Unfortunately it was too steep for 
Nas to go up higher and around the tree, and even steeper on the downslope 
- all I could do till Nas was willing to step over was get him up high 
enough for other horses/riders to pass.

Sometimes the impossible becomes doable because of necessity.  That's why I 
say practice, practice, practice, pushing the envelope all the time when 
you're conditioning, so that when you're faced with the seemingly 
impossible, you have at least a chance of overcoming the odds against you.
