Remember, you don't ride the curb on direct contact
like you do the snaffle! It worked for Zabbie because
he was trained by a cowboy and taught to neck rein.
You right a curb bit very light handed! 

When I got him reschooled to direct reining, I moved
him over to the kimberwicke and can ride him either
way now. He's a much happier camper.
