[RC] How to pay bills while gone - k s swigart

Laura said:

My regular payments are going in envelopes with post
dated checks and a date where the stamp goes, and my
mother will religiously mail them on the correct date, but
how do I make sure the rest are paid??

What _I_ did when I did the 2001 XP ride was to pay the bills in advance
before I left (i.e. phone bill, electricity bills, credit card bills,
etc.). These agencies will just give you a credit balance until the
next month. Since I wasn't going to be earning any money while I was
gone, if I didn't have the money to pay the bill before I left, I
wouldn't have the money to pay the bill while I was on the trip either.
I even paid the gas credit card bills in advance before I left so I had,
in essence, already paid for the gas before I bought it.

This made it REALLY nice when I got back early (I only stayed for half
the ride....partially because I needed to get home to earn some money)
and didn't have any bills to pay for over a month :). AND had a huge
credit on some of my gas credit card bills because I didn't spend as
much in gas as I had already paid for.

However, in addition to paying bills in advance, you can also pay them
by telephone...which can be done from the road. Although most bill
issuers will charge you extra for this service.

Common sense should also be a part of the decision making process. If you
see someone who doesn't have any, hand them your tool box.
