Ok, I've gotta tell one...this past winter my friends and I were doing a
conditioning ride at Lake Somerville State Park. We encountered a couple of
backpackers...the horses slid to a halt, ears up, really to explode. I was
just opening my mouth to speak to the hikers, who were politely standing very
quietly off at the side of the road so as not to spook the horses (LOL), when,
in unison, all of our horses whirled and bolted back down the road at a dead
run. I kept yelling, "say something, say something!", and my friends, thinking
I was talking to them, starting saying, "whoa! whoa!" <VBG> We all got a good
laugh out of it later, and we subsequently passed a bunch of other backpackers
during that ride, giving the horses lots of time to get used to them. I
usually just start a conversation with "scary people," but all I could think of
to say during the "group spook" was "say something!"
