This particular mare has had three more foals for me
and she's always been pretty close to her due date
since then, so who knows what really happend in that
first experienced with her?

Was she in foal to the same stallion with this one?  Don't forget that the
foal is the one that determines gestational length, not the mare.  And
that the foal gets half of its genetics from daddy.  Our family that
routinely takes a year or more all trace back to my foundation
stallion--he had such an impact on due dates that virtually every mare
bred to him took close to a year.  Didn't matter how long their gestations
had been by other stallions.  I am still seeing the tendency in his
grandkids--doesn't matter whether they are by his son or out of one of his
daughters or granddaughters...
