[RC] Pulse-Punishing - Rides 2 Far

60 pulses work, and work well. 56 works as an extreme
control
measure under extreme circumstances.

Personally I think there comes a point where you need to look at
something besides pulses. I've had horses with magnificent recoveries
who had problems with gut sounds. I've said it before...but I rode with a
horse who tied up so bad he couldn't lift a hind leg but his pulse was
32.

You can take a horse with a strong heart, train the fool out of him and
he's gonna recover fast (until he gets in some other kind of trouble). He
may be thinner, so he's gonna cool fast. The very people who overtrain
horses are the very ones who over ride horses.

I'd like to see the deaths separated up into freak accidents (like the
one at Hahira), badly timed natural causes, and over riding. Of those due
to over riding...how many were ridden by people who are beginners...and
on the other extreme how many ridden by people who are starting to *hope*
to make money selling horses. Again...to put things in perspective...
I'll bet you there's been more horses die at one race track in a week
than died at AERC rides in a year.
