Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] time for riding - Kelli Kirchner

It is cold here in OH at the moment also. High only in the single digits today with wind chills well below zero and supposed to get below zero tonight. They closed all the schools in Dayton today becuase of the "frigid weather" (as a radio DJ put it). Now, I am originally from MN so I laughed out loud this morning when I heard they were closing schools because of cold weather. We haven't had above freezing temps in approx 3 weeks now. The ground is just too hard to ride outside which is why he will be swimming until we can get back outside. We are supposed to get back above freezing next Monday. I can't imagine having 85 degree weather right now. My guy is so fuzzy right now if we had 85 temps tomorrow, he would probably keel over and die of heat exhaustion. Hopefully in a couple of weeks the weather will be a little more favorable for some outdoor riding.

I do. It will get warmer in 3 days so why kill yourself? It will be 50's Monday or so. We actually had about an inch of snow.We do have a ring, 65 x 160 .But I haven't drug it, and it is hard.I rode him once on in icy spot last year, and he didn't get the idea, "slow down". Both of us skated, till I got off.Luckily he only has shoes in front, so his traction was good.Usually we got upper 40's ,low 50's as a high in winter (Atlanta area).Normally, then we get 60's and 70's even, sometimes.Rain is the worst winter problem. We say we have two seasons, mud season(DEC.-April) and then fly season(May to Oct.)
Angie is about 1.5 hour north, but it is 5-10 degress cooler there in the mountains.(I lived in Chattanooga for 6 years). Laurie and Rascal

I feel for all of you guys! The past few weeks out here in Southern
California have been spectacular. I have been riding in a bra top and pants.
Got up to 85 degrees for about 2 weeks. Makes it great for training, but man
those horses sweat! Don't want to clip because I have 20MT in two weeks, and
I am betting it won't be 85 up there in Ridgecrest!
Do you guys just give up on riding and really conditioning when it is that
cold?

Tiffany
