Re: [RC] Decline of entries in 100 milers - sharp penny

And, on a different take,
older riders just getting into endurance CAN be too
intemidated to try the 100.

Being the afore-mentioned "older" [49 and holding ;o ]
rider just getting into endurance, for me 100's are my
ultimate goal. What will be the deciding factor is whether
or not I think my body can handle it. When I jumped from
25's to 50's this wasn't a factor, as I had no soreness
after I did a 25. When I ride a 50 at around the 40 mile
mark my body starts royally complaining and it takes a good
3 days before I can walk with any semblence of a normal
gait. Until I can easily ride a 50 and not be in agony
afterwards it's kind of pointless for me to even try a 100.
On the plus side my goal to ride 100's had put me on a
serious weight/cardio workout program. Even if I never make
the 100's my body will be in better shape because of them!
I am very much in awe of those in their 60's, 70's and up
doing 100's and wonder how they manage to ride them season
after season.

Regards,
Penny
