Re: [RC] SLURRIES/SLOP - Stephanie E CaldwellI know this is a little late, but it was sunny over the weekend and I was on my horse and in the hayfields. And I think recent information about ulcers will bear out that we've once again gone overboard with a supposedly "good idea" and are actually maybe causing more harm than good..... Since it's now getting summertime here in the Southeast I've been struggling with the E-lyte questions, as usual. Last summer we Electrolyted every ride and the farm I boarded with kept E-lytes in the water. My horse ended up with an ulcer. This year she's had one dose of E-lytes; This past week she was in a stall, drinking poorly, mildly dehydrated Saturday, so she got a big bucket of beet pulp, feed, supplements, and a dose of E-lytes. She drank close to 8 gallons Saturday night and drank everythign in site while riding Sunday. However, I'm afraid to E-lyte her too much with her having had an ulcer last year. What foods have the most natural E-lytes in them? I considered juicing her fresh pasture grass and giving her fresh veggie juice in her beet pulp and watermelon, would that give her enough Electrolytes?
