Re: [RC] RC] starting times - rrohwer RohwerAngie,
Really like what you say here:
To do a 100 you train pretty much
the same as for 50, just for more years. The biggest thing they've got to get before they make that jump is *religion*. When they learn to eat and drink and pace themselves the physical part will hold up for the added distance.
I remember when my mare finally figured out her job. It was some where
around year 3 of competing on her. By year 4 there was no doubt, she knew
when we traveled to a ride what it was about. It has made competing so much
easier. Especially when she finally learned that when there is a water tank
she best drink because there may not be another for a while. I have been
competing on her for 7 years now. I've mainly done 50's but did my first 75
last year and also my first 2 day 100. I don't feel like I trained any
differently to go to the next step, just stayed consistent with my training.
I'm kicking off my year next weekend with a 50 and if all goes well am
hoping to jump up to some 75's after that. To go to a 100 I still need to
work on MY mental attitude. But I don't have many doubts that the mare
could do it.
Ride on consistently. That is mainly what it takes.
