Vets have weighed in on this before here, saying 3 weeks for horse spleens to acclimate.

How do you know that it took your horses that long to acclimate?  Horses have HUGE spleens which allow them to adapt very quickly to additional elevation.  People are not the same.  I live at 1600’ and ride my horses up to 8000’ maybe a couple times a summer and they never have any issues.  Matter of fact, both of mine are more energetic in the high mountain trails.

Mike,

I moved from the Bay Area to Placerville at the 2800' level.  It took me at least six months to acclimitize.  The horses took equally as long.  However, just know the fun you will have riding in much lower levels!  :)  You will be able to ride for DAYS!
