Re: [RC] Towing Vehicle - Kathy Mayeda

Yep - have a C1500. I haul a heavy Trails West trailer 2-horse bumper
pull slant. Last time I went down to DVE with two horses and all the
stuff, I realized how undersized my truck is. My next truck will be
bigger! I have about 145K miles on it now, still runs great, but I'm
sure if I was actively competing in endurance right now, I would have
gotten a a 3/4 ton or 1 ton already.

start out with small things cutting out, then the A/C. The first few times,
we didn't think too much of it, just something else to fix, but the strain
that pulling that trailer was putting on my truck was cumulative. Dawn & I
have a great story of how it finally kicked the bucket in Uvalde, Tx at the
Montel Cliffhanger ride, leaving her stuck in camp with the horses and me
stuck in town with a dead truck and a dead hearing aid. No cell service
either, so I couldn't let her know I wasn't coming back to get her & the
horses!
Your truck may do fine for a while, but the stress will build up and
hopefully someday it won't kill your truck at a bad time.

I've read a couple mentions against the F-150, which is the vehicle I tow
with. Are you saying it's not even ok with just a 2-horse bumper pull? My
trailer is about 3000 lbs empty, and I have yet to put two horses in it.
I'd love to have bigger truck, and I'm sure it would provide a lot more
security, but there's just no way I could afford to keep two vehicles for
towing and commuting separate... I do drive incredibly cautiously though
when I'm towing, so hopefully luck will continue following me :-/
