Re: [RC] Git R Done Special in January - kassandrad

You're right about smart. If there is another well established ride a week
away, and since it was a last minute addition, they may in fact be discouraging
aerc only riders so as not to upset those RMs nearby by drawing riders from
their rides! I know a few months back when it was being discussed in a
different forum they were trying to set the date of the ride around pre
existing rides so as not to take away from them.

The glass is half full people! Let's not always assume the negative. And if you
have these questions, maybe it would be best to call the ride manager putting
on the ride and just ask them? That's always better then speculation.

think=0A>=C2=A0that is unfair statement that is misinformed. =0A=C2=A0=0AI =
must confess, I assumed, because of the charging of $500 to $600 as an entr=
y fee for "AERC only" riders in the Git R Done Special in January, the inte=
nt was to discourage any "AERC only" riders from attending.=C2=A0 Because F=
EI rides have to be AERC sanctioned as well, it may be that they are not al=
lowed to actually deny entry to riders who do not want to do the FEI ride, =
but would rather not have them there so they just decided to make it cost p=
rohibitive.=0A=C2=A0=0AI can understand why a Southern California (or other=
wise "localish")=C2=A0FEI rider might be willing to cough up that kind of e=
ntry fee in order to qualify their horse through the FEI star system accord=
ing to the new requirements, as doing so is cheaper than paying for the gas=
money and taking the time to drive to Montana or Florida or wherever else =
there might be an FEI event.=C2=A0 But no AERC only rider in their right mi=
nd would do it if they could go to Fire Mountain (a stone's throw away in R=
idgecrest also in January, a week later) and do the 50 miler there for $100=
.=C2=A0 Or they could go to 20 Mule Team (a stone's throw away in Ridgecres=
t in February, a month later) and do the 65 or 100 miler there for maybe $2=
00 at most (they were $110 and $165 last year).=0A=C2=A0=0AIf the ride mana=
gement of the Git R Done Special in January DOES want AERC only riders to c=
ome, they have probably priced it wrong to attract many of these people.=0A=
=C2=A0=0ARather than assuming that ride management is too stupid to figure =
out that they have probably priced it wrong if they want to get many AERC o=
nly riders to attend.=C2=A0 I consider it much more polite to assume that t=
hey know what they are doing, and they really don't want them to come.=C2=
=A0 And they may have a very good reason for that.=C2=A0 I consider it poli=
te to assume that as well.=0A=C2=A0=0Akat=0AOrange County, Calif.=0A:)
