I have a couple of questions for all of you about awards. Answer any or all, as you please - but please do answer!

1. Do awards make a difference as to whether you'd go to a ride or not? If so, what's the minimum type of award that makes the difference?

No. A box of milk chocolates would make me happy!

2. Rides used to give out buckles for awards, but don't any more. Is it because they're too expensive and add a cost to the ride that riders won't bear? Or is it because riders don't care about buckles?

They are far too costly and I found it difficult to find a manufacturer.

3. What about T-shirts? Jackets?

Those would be good, as long as the colors would be flattering.

4. What's the best completion or other award you've ever gotten? And would you want to always be able to get an award like that?

I don't really remember. Possibly a windbreaker that I wore for years and years until it wore out. I don't really ride for awards, anyway. I also treasure a cheap little silver-colored plastic trophy cup for coming in second and taking BC on day 2 of my first ever XP ride, back in the days when we rode from point to point along the real XP trail. On it is a piece of paper that says, "I rode the hell out of my horse and I still won Best Condition." To have received BC and to have an award so steeped in humor is special to me. The second place was also won in a race across the finish line against another rider. Lots of fun.

5. What's the lousiest completion award you've ever gotten? And if you feel it was lousy, why?

I suppose you could say mine was a piece of limestone for being the last rider to finish Fireworks one year. But, oddly, I was very proud of that rock and still have it, because it was the first completion for a mare we bred, raised and trained. I'm not overly fond of paper certificates, but we gave them on our rides to those who wanted to ride and save money.

6. What's your recommendation for a perfect completion award?

I'm not really sure, but I suppose a nice T-shirt comes close.

Thanks! _____________________________________
