Subject: Changing Pulse down time

Please post to Ridecamp.

Don’t change the pulse down to 30 minutes. There are times when a horse has to urinate and may take more than 30 minutes to relax and do his business. There are times when a heavier muscled horse takes longer to come down. There are too many different factors, with a 30 minute criteria, that will disqualify riders that shouldn’t be disqualified. There are many different breeds that are able to compete in AERC because of the 1 hr recovery criteria. These horses may not be able to compete/complete if the criteria requirement is reduced. I ride a horse that may take up to 20-25 minutes to recover, but can crank out a 100 mile ride or a 50 mile ride. Riding slower may not affect the results. I also ride FEI and don’t think the rest of the riders should have to abide by their rules if they are not riding FEI. This is a sport that all riders and all horse breeds should be able to enjoy competing in or completing in. Do not change the 1 hr recovery rule. There are just too many different factors that we don’t yet know or will never know why our equine friend may take longer to recover from one ride vs. another ride.

FEI may need the 30 minute rule because of the speeds that are being run. But I don’t think the rest of AERC should be restricted to a 30 minute criteria.
