Re: [RC] mystery bumps on horse - Elizabeth Walker

What about skin irritation from sweat?  Maybe try rinsing the area with plain water after every ride.  Another possibility is that she is sensitive to the girth material itself.

OK, who wants to play 'guess the skin disorder'?

I have a grey arabian mare and for the past few summers she's gotten bumps in the armpit area - both on the body side and leg side of the armpit.  Like a bunch of pimples, they start small and then get bigger.  Saw them last year and they eventually went away.  Don't think they're bug bites since in such an isolated area.

If they were allergies, would it make sense that they only show up in this one location?  Are they hives?

She was in a stall until yesterday since April (recovering from laminitis).  Was turned back out to pasture yesterday and today the bumps showed up for the first time this year, but only on one armpit so far.

Don't think it's from girth galls from riding, because right now she's only ridden at a walk twice a week for short periods.

Ideas?  Treatment?

Thanks!
Cindy
