Don’t run!  It’s counter intuitive, but you should get really big and loud and aggressive.  Cats attack from the back.  So, until you’re sure that the cat is no threat and headed in the opposite direction from you, you should NOT turn your back on him.    If you’re going to be around them a lot, pasting “eyes” on the back of your helmet is a good thing.   Even a horse can’t out run them, so running away is futile if they’re really intent on getting you.
