[RC] Western Maine Pioneer - Katherine Brunjes

The Western Maine 5-day (with Pioneer division) is NOT run on the same trails as the Pine Tree or Crooked River or Maine 80/100.  Western Maine is held at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds, approx. 30 miles south west of the location of the Pine Tree and Crooked River trails.

The trails consist of sandy river crossings (the Saco River is one of the premier Western Maine vacation rivers), potato fields, corn fields, some White Mountain National Forest trails and lots of jeep and woods trails.

the campsite is at the largest fairground in Maine - the town of  Fryeburg sits at the mouth of the White Mountains/NH border, and hosts one of New England's largest country fairs during the first week of October.  There are 40 + box stalls for horses, lots of grassy grazing areas and every camp site has an electrical/water hookup available.  There are public showers and large public washrooms/bathrooms for use.  There are ice cream shops, sandwhich shops, pizza parlors and gas stations within 1/4 mile of the grounds.
