You can buy cotton rope and braid back a snap in each end and they work great.  They do get heavy when wet though.........mb

I really love the soft cotton rope reins (round) with the swivel  
snaps, but they are much harder to find these days.  Most people do  
like the yacht rope, but I hate it.  I think it's way too slippery.  
Even with gloves, I just love the soft feel of the cotton.  I also  
have lovely mohair rope round reins with swivel snaps and I really  
like them, too.  Cindy
