RE: [RC] Convention Rooms - Ranelle Rubin

Heidi,

I am not in the loop as to when these meeting rooms were booked and the block of rooms guaranteed. My personal business experience in this area has been in the neighborhood of 6-9 months in advance of the seminar date. Does it make sense that, like the rates that have dropped for your airfare and car rental, that quite possibly, the rates now available for rooms that are left have also dropped?

I know when I travel at the last minute for business, there are times when I get great rates, although limited availability..kind of get what is left. Reno is a pretty volatile market..economy and weather directly affect their transient population (tourists). We all know about the economy. Last year alot of skiers got really burned with a drought and very little snow. This year we have tons of snow! So you just never know. In order to make sure the members who wanted to come to the convention had rooms available in the hotel, AERC likely had to guarantee a certain number of rooms MANY months ago. I suppose if they have to "eat" the sleeping rooms, they will have to make certain decisions in the future as to how many rooms to block. I just hope those who want to stay in the same hotel can do so at future conventions.

I know it is hard to pay for an expensive hotel when we are used to camping in our rigs..
