Steel nails also dull the saws, as well as being dangerous (if the nails are large enough.)

The only restrictions we have in FL State Forest is if you attach to a tree you have to use Aluminum nails. Why, I asked since they are a pain to drive. The reason I was told - if the tree is harvested and a saw blade - either sawmill or chainsaw hits a steel nail it can create a dangerous situation. They cut right through an Al nail.
