Re: [RC] Ride managers, riders, and AERC - Dot Wiggins

This doesn't seem to punish anyone except the riders, who paid the entry fees and rode the ride, because if results aren't recognized/published riders don't get credited with miles/points.

No skin off the RM who probably lost money and won't put on another ride anyway.

This happened some years ago when RM didn't pay AERC fees. By the end of the season some one else stepped in and paid the AERC fees for that ride.

As far as bounced checks, no pay etc., RM can go the legal route and file charges. If the non payer isn't local it may take a while but it works.
When ride entries were $50 it was only a misdemeanor, but today's laws make any bad check a felony. Not something most folks want to bring on themselves.

Not sure how this might work on the other end, with an unwritten, or posted, refund policy?

What AERC does do is that if the ride manager doesn't pay the ride fees - the results don't get published. SERA had an example of this a few years ago. And the ride manager finds it difficult to get sanctioning in the future.
