Thanks, Marirose.  I have a few zip ties lying around here that may work.  Leather strings would be even better, in my opinion.

Has anyone found a good way to ensure that full-length seat cover stirrup flaps stay attached?  I'm about to give up on regular string/rope, as I can't make it stay tied.  Next plan is maybe some sort of wax-covered leather that won't come untied.

Leather boot laces or zip ties. I don't know about your specific problem, but I've used both of these for various things with no problems. Good luck.
