[RC] Presidents cup for juniors and young riders - Sbolinge

I was appauled when I read Stephs story...and it wasn't only because of the danger to the riders but what about the horses?  Am I missing something here??  If you are going ride a horse on an endurance ride and you have never riden this horse before, isn't it just common sense to get to know as much as possible about the horse so that you can better judge what is normal for the horse, etc.  When I was riding alot of endurance I knew my horse inside and out and knew just from the way he moved, or the way he ate or drank water or whatever, if he was doing ok or not. I know it happens that horses are leased or borrowed for rides but I have always assumed that the owner made sure the new rider knew everything possible about the horse and spent time riding the horse before the ride to make sure they were a match. To have that kid get on a horse 5 minutes before the ride...a horse that nobody knew anything about...is crazy. And the girl who got run away with once and then sent off again??? Sorry for the young riders but mostly sorry for the horses...all the horses that are subjected to that whole mind set.
