Re: [RC] cutting costs and horses at trailers-Jill - Karen Sullivan

I have been really pleased with the quality of the Elk Grove
milling...if you buy it by the barrel it works out to 9-something per
50 lbs....and unlike equine adult does not have all that added
sweetness....

Its easy and safe to store in the barrels...even I, a 52 year old lady
with a bad back was able to kick/roll it out of my truck by myself and
tip upward....

I too (just down the road from Sandy Rovane who did a GREAT clean and
repair job on my blankets) just started blanketing because I don't want to
waste feed keeping horses warm. I also just bought some hay pellets to
supplement one of my horses along with equine adult, giving corn oil, and
flax seed. Pellets are useful because there is no waste and one can
usually get them. I can get grass, alfalfa or oat pellets. I was thinking
of trying the stable mix from Elk Grove Milling (which Jill you should be
able to get in the Bay Area) so when i run out of Equine Adult I will try
that. Beet pult is also a great idea for stretching the feed. Pull shoes
in the winter if possible.

Jill you should call feed stores in the tracy area. I know there is a hay
distributor there over by Lathrop. You might call and see if they will
sell to you. Of course this isn't helpful if you don't have a place to
store hay. You also might try the Solano area too.

Sandy is it really true that people have been tieing horses to trailers,
Geez in our area one would think that if there was a horse tied to a
trailer we would probably wonder why so and so's horse is at our
trailer.... and promptly return it LOLOL.
