RE: [RC] Sorough Cup photos location - Karen Standefer

I'm not so sure that these are weak pasterns you're looking at so much as
they are what happens at speed in deep sand. That is why sand is
particularly hard on the suspensory apparatus. These horses are obviously
conditioned for doing lots of miles at high speeds in deep sand. But, it
certainly illustrates well why you want to do LOTS of conditioning before
doing a fast ride in deep footing.

I'd like to see the horses at rest rather than moving.

Several people e-mailed that they couldn't find the photos -- I
clicked the cover photo when it rotated through. However, if you go
to ridecamp's homepage, then look to the right and down a bit, you'll
see three boxes of photos. The Sorough Cup (Book fair?) is the top
box. Click it. On that event's homepage, click the photo on the
upper right to access the album that had most of the shots I
noticed. Pages 3, 4, and 5 are most illustrative of what bugged me.
I suppose these horses have to be much faster than those used for
scrambling around mountains, so maybe the weird spindly legs and weak-
looking pasterns help with speed??? In any case, I don't have any
experience with that kind of horse so am wondering if speedy horses
used on flat races don't break down with this build? I'd love to
discover the pasterns hold up as my Leo's pasterns are more sloped
than I'd like.
