RE: [RC] Poor Showing at WEC - heidiOh, really? Hey, did you happen to catch the Olympics? And I don't mean the events where we had superstars, like swimming or gymnastics. I mean events like kayaking, where we had a young man compete who was at his first Olympics and did well to survive the course. Are you suggesting that we shouldn't send athletes like that, because they somehow don't "represent" us well enough???? Well, I caught that kid's kayak run, and I was damn proud that he was an American. I'm proud of every athlete who went there, medal or no medal, even if they fell flat on their faces. They earned their spots on that Olympic squad, and they can wear the red, white and blue to represent me any time, any place.
It is one thing to offer constructive criticism to our WEC squad when there are clearly things that need to be improved--and that has been the case the last couple of trips. Some things went on with our management in those trips that truly contributed to our downfall. But even that doesn't take away from the achievement and the courage of the riders who went. My hat is off to those who put in the blood, sweat and tears--and Angie was right that our squad suffered some bad luck this time out. But I will not denigrate their effort--they earned their spots on the squad, and had every right to be there wearing the red, white and blue.
