My point exactly. The population that the completition statistics was drawn from is not very homogeneous. There are many important criteria for selection and completion.


This is quite different from Truman's example of a company producing a large number of widgets on an automated production line. There the whole production is very carefully controlled so small differences are significant. Endurance riding has many uncontrolled variables, as a result one has to be very careful that Murphy does not use this to encourage you to make poor decisions based on what appears to be good statistics.

I guess my feeling is: Do the statistics, but be very careful and cautious in the interpretation. Murphy is alive, well, and has followed me around all of my life.
