Does it mean that when picking a jockey* to ride in the WEC you 
should try > to make sure that he/she hit as close to the minimum
weight as 
possible? Of > course, DUH!  But this is obvious anyway.

Interesting note. The "jockey" that Val put on her 50 mile horse to do a
3:58 50 was a MW.

On the Heavyweight stats.
I found it interesting that in the 50, if I have my notes correct, 5 out
of 14 heavyweight entries were pulled at the FIRST vet check. There were
no more pulls of heavyweights after that. The first loop tends to be
fastest...makes me wonder about weight and *speed*. The first heavyweight
to finish the 50 was in 24th place overall.

Then in the 100 miler, there were 6 heavyweights entered. Four finished.
The first heavyweight to finish was 12th overall.

If I was a heavyweight I'd try to go farther, not faster. :-)
