Please note that when I mentioned in my previous posts that the
difference of opinion being demonstrated here "might be a gender issue"
is not because I think that all men a brutes who deal harshly with
horses (or even that I think Mike Sherrell is), but was rather to point
out that no woman in her right mind would have as an underlying
philosophy that the only way to generate compliance (from any thinking
being) would be to somewhere along the line have engaged in a battle of
strength with it and won.

Controlling women just don't exert their control in that way, at least,
rarely successfully so.  So they are unlikely to assert that it is an
absolute necessity.
