A couple comments. I think the AERC NC is an important event, and is becoming more prestigious and ROCish each year - it draws some of the top riders in the country. And I'm glad the AERC is finally recognizing an overall winner instead of just weight division winners. That said, it is important to note that the AERC does not fund this event. It is still an individually managed ride. The AERC contributes money towards the hiring of vets, but all of the other expenses come out of the ride manager's pockets. It is not that different from ROC in that respect.
