Re: [RC] 100 mile rides are disappearing - Dawn Carrie

CT Region actually has 4 100s: Bluebonnet, Jo tate, Unicorn Hunt, and Armadillo.  This year Unicorn's 100 was cancelled because the Nat. Forest was shut down early in anticipation of hurricane Gustav, and Armadillo's 100 was cancelled due to trail damage from hurricane Ike.  $%^# hurricanes...

But I'm with you, Meghan...I was looking forward to the Armadillo 100 (but I totally support the decision to cancel this year), and I sure wish there were more 100s closer to East Texas!!!!!  I'm already scoping the ride calendar for the 2009 ride year for 100s.  Not sure how many the bank account will support, but I'm going to try and do as many as possible.

I have been trying to do a hundred mile ride for several months now. It seems though that in the central region all 100 mile rides are disappearing. I counted yesterday and figured out that five years ago there used to be 8 hundred mile rides in our region. Now there are 2 a year. This year one had to be cancelled so there was only one. What is the reasoning for this? Do people not want to do them anymore? Also, the number of rides a year is diminishing as well. It seems now that if you want to be nationally competitive in our sport you have to travel to the east or west coast. Is this just me or do others feel the same way.
