RE: [RC] Disqualified - Susan

A horse CAN be DQ'd for kicking or (fill in the blank).  That doesn't mean it WILL be DQ'd.  You can't DQ anyone for what (s)he MIGHT do...only what (s)he actually does.  Even then, it's up to a ride official.

If a horse kicks people OR horses, I'd certainly look at the circumstances.  A horse will be a horse and a horse's natural defense is to kick.  If someone ran up on the horse and it kicked out in defense, I'd be forgiving.  If a horse was in a bad mood and took it out on someone, I'd be more inclined to send it home.

Then, if a horse is prone to kick, and someone is required to put red ribbon on their horse, why aren't they disqualified before the begin? Not criticizing, just curious. Or did you mean if their horse kicks people, not other horses?

It sure can! It can also be DQ'd for kicking on the trail...any unsafe conduct on the part of the horse, the rider or both are grounds for disqualification.

Can't a horse can be disqualified for being unsafe to examine? - e.g., taking a bite out of the vet or extreme refusal to stand for a pulse?
