I don't like them to be really loud, but my bells just sort of jingle, and are not that loud, and honestly I don't even notice them anymore. One thing I will say is that they have helped me with new horses on trail, they seem to soothe them and since they alert the wildlife (squirrels, rabbits) they aren't jumping right out on top of us. That has dramatically decreased the amount of spooks on my new horses.
