Re: [RC] LD - Barbara McCrary

This reminds me of a past president of AERC (and I cannot think of his name at the moment) who tried Tevis 11 times before he actually finished. That takes a certain degree of persistence!

I agree with Joe that *any* distance at any given time with any given rider or horse can be a challenge, even a supreme one. And the pride in each accomplishment comes from the doing, not the labeling or awarding or recognizing.
My mother, who is a very wise woman, taught us as children that we can always do better, and for some fortunate reason, that sunk in. Whenever I seem to think that I can't do something that is important to me, I simply visualize someone who has far greater handicaps, and is doing far greater things than I am. My neighbor has climbed Mt. Everest, and it took him three times to make it. On one good leg, and one prosthetic leg. A paraplegic supporting friend of his climbed to the 17,000 foot summit to cheer him on, on his hands and knees.
I saw a guy on tv who had no legs whatsoever. He just sits on his pelvis. And I watched a documentary of him doing a marathon..............on his fists. It took him two days, and he slept on the sidewalk when it was time to rest.
Paralyzed people sit in a wheelchair, and with a pencil in their mouth, type out a living on a computer. The list goes on.
The reasons we often give ourselves as to why we can't do a 25, or a 50 or a 100, are invalidated by these people. I choose to think that's why they're here. To indirectly remind us of what we are truly capable of, when we give up our excuses and get out of our own way. Try a 50 or 100 if you haven't. You will be changed just for the trying, and rejuvenated when you succeed. Bruce Weary
