RE: [RC] [RC] re: LD, 50, 100 - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLF

Exactly. My horse completed quite a few 50's with her previous owner. She
became my horse a little over 2 years ago and I started with LD's because I
felt that was MY limit, not hers. Lol Incidentally, I discovered some things
during the LDs that I'm glad I didn't have to learn during a 50. She needs
e-lytes bumped-up to encourage drinking, she needs some corrective hoof
trimming (had some EponaTech images done to determine exactly what needs to be
done) and I need to work out. =)

As Angie said (I think), there are certainly people that are under-prepared and
none of us want to encourage that behavior. However, if your horse has done a
couple of 25 milers with no problems, there is no reason why the horse can't do
a 50 miler. I feel that Heidi was much more eloquent in explaining this than I
was. My first endurance horse did two 25 milers back in 1979. Those are the
last 25 milers I've ever done. My horses start out on 50s and I have started
horses on 100s. Cindy

See, in all honesty, I did not know this when I started. I thought you
had to put in so many miles per week, so many hours in the saddle, etc in order
to venture into a 50. I felt my riding time was too limited to ever attempt a
50. Thanks to this forum, I'm learning otherwise.
