Re: [RC] Big Ride Training - oddfarm

C'mon people. You are critiquing this young person as if she were a professional rider and writer. How old is she? Nineteen?? NINETEEN! What do you want? This was an article for EN, (which is a great magazine but it isn't TIME magazine or whatever you all think is a brilliant mag) written by a nineteen year old who is only sharing her experiences. Again, she is NINETEEN. When she is 40 and still riding, I guarantee she will have a tad more EXPERIENCE and then she can write a different article. Take from it what you want or ignore it. Jiminy Crickets!

Jeeze, I wish I had been as brilliant at nineteen as some of you must have been. I THOUGHT I knew it all back then, but I was mistaken. I am pretty sure I also thought the only way to achieve anything was my way, which of course was the right way. ;)

The article suggested eight weeks.

For me, if there is a problem with the conditioning program laid out in the article is not so much what she is suggesting how you should condition, but that it DOES come across as it being the only way to condition.

This is the language she uses:

"You should...." (consistently ride every other day).
"It is essential..." (to include one slow five- to six-hour ride each
week
and
"Make sure..." (to get a 90-mile training week in 8 weeks before) and
(six weeks before, one 50 mile comeptition or fun ride).

This is not language that suggests there are other ways to achieve the
same thing.
