Re: [RC] [RC] Hay prices - Carla Richardson

I don't know what our prices for the new hay will be around here, hopefully we'll see the first of this year's hay coming in soon.  It's been too cold at night here to get much growth yet, so everyone's behind schedule on their first cut.

Last year our hay was anywhere from $4.00 to $5.50 a bale, excellent quality orchard grass hay, or orchard grass/alfalfa mix.  Those are 70 lb. average size, 2 wire (or 2 string) bales.

The previous year, in late spring, we were paying $8.00 for partly moldy horrible hay, we had just moved to the area and had to pretty much take what we could get at the end of the season.  I was not happy, and very worried.  Now, we have good hay contacts, and last year's hay crop was a big one, so we had no trouble getting good hay this past year.

I'm hoping for another good hay year this year!  And hoping the prices won't go up too much.  I filled up my Ford Bronco the other day, 31 gallons, $114.93.  Sigh.  But I'm lucky, it gets about 15 mpg pulling my trailer, and 20 mpg when not pulling, so I can't complain.  And, they're both paid for, even if they're "ugly." <G>
