Re: [RC] annual rabies or not? - Beth Walker

Does everyone get their horses vaccinated for rabies? ?I'm asking, because I don't know of any vets around here that include a rabies vaccine in their normal protocol. ?I just looked up the web site of one of the vets in this area, and the recommended vaccines are:
?? 5-way (1/yr), Flu/Rhino(2/yr), West Nile(2/yr)

I had my Vet check this out with the manufacturer just last week, as we have been?operating on the assumption that Rab Vac 3 was good for three years.? The manufacturer said NO, that horses metabolize the vaccine too quickly and that all equines needed an annual rabies vaccine for protection.

Subject:?[RC] annual rabies or not?

Just wondering if anyone has info about the necessity of horses getting vaccinated every year rather than every two or 3 years for rabies. The following info is regarding dogs.
