[RC] Rough Trot (was: best saddle for 2 point) - k s swigart

I am saddle searching for my Standardbred gelding.
His trot is ridiculous to try and post to, so I do mainly
2-point the whole time.

His trot throws me all over the place and I cannot get him
to "gait" instead of trot.

Are you sure that your Standardbred IS trotting? Often with
Standardbreds, the two beat gait that is throwing you all over the place
is pacing rather than trotting. A pace is virtually impossible to try
to post to as it is predominantly a side to side motion.

p.s.

What saddle would be best for maintaining
the 2-point in for loooooooooong periods of
time? I prefer the western type of saddle
without horn.

To answer THIS question (the one you asked), it would be one with the
stirrups hung in such a way (usually sufficiently far back, but it
depends on the shape of the seat and YOUR conformation) as to make it
easy for you to keep your feet directly underneath you.
