Val, I created a soaking set up that is so easy it is ridiculous. I drilled holes in a small plastic bucket (5 lb vitamin bucket). I put the BP in that, then set it inside another bucket (a small feed bucket), and fill with water. Depending on my schedule, I let it sit as long as overnight sometimes, then lift out the small bucket, rinse with pressure from the nozzle on the hose, and use it. It is very easy and quick. I have a horse who gets fat on air, so I like to soak out any molasses that might still be in there. I agree with Susan G. and your feed store person though. When you consider that BP is a by-product of Sugar Beets that are grown for their sugar, doesn't it make sense that they will have extracted as much glucose as they can before it heads to the feed processing plant? I once tasted the water just to see if it is sweet..not very! I thought BP was always dried and thus a stable product even without the molasses. She claims that the BP provides a special coating on the BP preventing it from going bad. Now, before anyone flames me for this...I am having difficulty believing what I am being told about this.
