Re: [RC] state fair express unofficial ride results - Nancy Sturm

Along the same lines, I once had a rider complain that I wasn't fully
evaluating her horse because during the trot-out, I was done watching after
about six strides and had turned away.

We were laughing the other day about something we saw at last year's Grizzly Mountain ride. The weather had been nasty, cold and wet all day and we were crewing for a friend who had just ridden her first 50 on a borrowed horse. They came in nice and strong and the vet was watching as they finished. Then he watched as the mare dragged Sherry across the vetting in area. He had her trot just a few strides and waved his hand and said "she's fine". It was obvious that she was fit to continue and we thought he showed a nice understanding of that and good common sense.
