[RC] Sub thread on Relaxed horses and letter grades - Sisu West RanchI started on the Midwest version of CTR (officially called "competitive riding"). The complete rules are on UMECRA.com. In this sport the vets divide each grade of lameness into 20 points. That is, a horse can loose 15 points and still be less than grade 1 lame. A horse can also loose up to 20 points at the end from an evaluation of general fatigue. I learned to teach my horses (to the extent possible) to trot slowly and relaxed at the start of the ride, then there was less "change" at the end.In relation to endurance I guess my bottom line is: If you want to get bent out of shape about the line between relaxed and tired, go do CTR. If you just want to compete, do endurance, go for the completion, glance at the vet card at the end to see if the vets noticed something you didn't, toss it, collect your T-shirt and go home*. Ed *There is a difference of opinion in our houshold. Wendy loves UMECRA CTR, while I only tolerated it as a shorter distance before LD came to the Midwest.
