A note on the hotel:

and a bit more background:
---------------------------------
Sitting in the northwest corner of Peninsula Malaysia, the state of Kedah covers an area of 9,425 square kilometers. It's not surprising that Kedah is also known as the "rice-bowl of Malaysia," a colloquial phrase that takes on aesthetic significance when you see the wide expanse of paddies rippling in the breeze against a backdrop of hills.

If you prefer to be near the modern comforts of civilization, Star City Hotel is smack in the middle of the commercial center of Kedah, near the stretch of Jalan Putra which is known for its night life.

Some of the best places to find authentic local street food include Jalan Alor (opposite Bukit Bintang Plaza), Damansara, the Central Market, Petaling Street Pasar Malam (Night Market) and the Food Courts at the Suria KLCC.

And within walking distance of Star City Hotel is the Pekan Rabu, translated as ?Wednesday Market.? The popularity of the flea market was enough reason to extend its operating hours throughout the week, from morning till midnight.

60 kilometer south of Kedah is Pantai Merdeka, a popular beach that makes for a popular and refreshing stop after a day of exploring the Bujang Valley area. But if you love the great outdoors and a challenge, Gunung Jerai is the highest peak in Kedah, standing at 1,200 meters above sea level. A breathtaking vista awaits those who make it to the top, and this is accessible via nature trails or road.
