Yes, not many of those pulls are ending up like OUR, USA-Rich-Folks' flat-track racehorses such as Ruffian, Barbaro, and the zillion you don't hear about that get "retired" to the Alpo stockyards.

Using living beings as a "commodity" for human profit is a CHOICE that is made in every country, including ours ~ and not just with horses. That is why I got out of the animal "business."

AERC endurance is not a "professional" sport. Our amateur, individualistic outlook is what makes us train/ride differently. Besides, we don't even have 100 miles of desert sands to train on, so why would we care about that kind of riding, unless we were planning to compete over there? Only the rich folk can afford to do that. I feel lucky to be so poor :-)

Bingo, Angie.? We work until we are blue in the face here to let
people know that it is ok to pull, it is the right thing to do to pull, it is in the horse's best interests to pull, etc.? To castigate these people for a high pull rate is contradictory to that message.?

These horses are pulled for the slightest offness, and that is a GOOD
thing.? To these riders, the concept that one might be able to slow down and complete with a horse that is less than 100% is simply not in their lexicon.? Are we "better" than they are because we do that?? I'm not so sure.? Additionally, if they can't be first or in the first few, they WANT to quit.? Is that wrong?

Sorry, Lisa, this isn't about who has billions of dollars--Angie is
right on the mark that we shouldn't be pointing fingers at their pull rate.? There are some other aspects of the sport the way they do it that I don't like, and I don't want to ride that way.? And there might be other aspects where you could point to the money.? But in the case of the pulls, the rich folks are accepting failure.? Imagine that!? I wish a few of our riders were as easy to convince that it is ok to pull!!!
