[RC] PC "legs forward" and temps - Mary Howell

Can anyone comment on the "legs forward" position so many of the riders
evidenced during the PC? A good example is on Steph's last loop images,
page 2 of 5, #3139.

Kinda reminds me of those Olde Englishe hunting prints with the gentry
practically laying on the horse back and their legs completely straight out
in front of them with their feet near the horses nose as they go over jumps.

Seems like that position would put a lot of weight on the horse's loins and
be uncomfortable to boot...

Also, it looked to be about 1pm when the front runners finished - does
anyone know how hot it got over there that day and if there were any breezes
blowing during the last loop. My horse can gallop for quite a while, but
only if it's cold and windy...
