Re: 2008 VV Classic! (was Re: [RC] 2030) - John Teeter

You don't have to use a GPS unless you want to be in the GPS division. I'm going to be in the HandDrawn division b/c it's lots easier (for me:) -

as to your questions:

So Angie, if your #7 is ready for the VV Classic, you'll need to
check in at the start at the right time!:)

I just sat down with the book & my GPS. Once I realized I need to go
outside to get reception to figure the rest out I got cold just thinking
about it...so I think I'll take a nap instead. Would it work if I sat in
the car?
it would work to make the track, but it would not work to do it in the car and say you did it on a horse:)

Also, those of you familiar with motionbased.com, it does speed, elevation, distance, time. So if you do our tracklog from a car, don't try to fool us with your 40mph sprints!!

I did figure out how to turn it on and off. That's a start.
Nope, the start isn't until 8pmGMT on the 25th! until then its practice (and I'd encourage y'all to practice if you've got a chance!!

One more question...If Josie rides with me we can use the same data?
You can use the same track (either upload two tracks to motion based - one for each of you, or two kmz files. I'm going to try to set this up so that you all manage your own data - I want to ride not be stuck with doing data management for all you guys....

Dang, wish I could just find somebody else who'd keep up with it for me.
Jody is a GPS/mapping expert...but it's not worth hearing her make fun of
7's figure.
You can also annotate your track logs with images, video, AND audio - so those comments on 7's figure can be part of your race data!!

P.S. You seem to think you'll be getting data that looks like a "loop".
When you see my training paths you're going to think, "Spaghetti".
I've no assumptions about point2point or loops or lollipops or intervals etc. The only criteria is that you follow the rules (i.e. you'll need to have control points on longer rides - 25miles (40km) seems to be a reasonable max ride phase if you're doing a 50miler (80km). If you're doing 10 miles, you likely should have a stop/go (i.e. stop, get off, take your pulse and go on) with finish criteria at the end (and YES you will all have to record your finish time and recovery time and vet criteria just like this was a "real" ride - but you'll have to do it for yourselves unless you can afford to have a ride-vet available to you!!:)
