You're actually breaking up the manure so that the worm eggs are exposed to sunlight, which kills them.
 
Dragging is also a good practice in terms of fertilization.  We can really tell a difference in ours when we drag.

Horses will have a series of "greens & roughs" in the field where they
put their manure in the "rough" and graze the green . If you drag the
field, are you not spreading worm eggs over the area that they want to
graze?
